P&P event Saturday December 12th - The Beautiful Truth

Greetings friends, and happy holidaze! Please join us for P&P #14 as we celebrate our one year anniversary! That's right, our little monthly gathering has been going on since Thanksgiving 2008 and this month we are once again having it out on location. We have been invited to kick-start the party "Entheogenic Garden" which will take place on Saturday December 12th at a SOMA warehouse in San Francisco (exact location TBA). Also celebrating birthdays with us are Jenn, Shanti and Sara. We will have the floor from 4pm to 8pm after which David (aka Dog of Tears) will present a short film titled "Rusted Sodom" that he created.

One of the intentions behind this evening is creating an environment that supports the process of healing. P&P will feature the film The Beautiful Truth which takes a look at the Gerson Therapy - a powerful treatment based on a natural diet which is shown to heal cancer and many other degenerative diseases but totally shunned by the conventional medical establishment. This inspiring movie is full of useful information about the Gerson Therapy itself and aspects of western health-care that we should always keep in mind. Trailer:

The potluck theme for this month is home food: share with us some of the dishes which remind you of the holiday season, "family" or "home", whatever these terms mean to you. Otherwise just bring any food or drink that you wish to share with the community.

Also before the main movie we will have some time for "open decks" so if you wish to share a short video on the big screen please get in touch on Facebook or potluckandpropaganda@gmail.com. It can be anything that you found entertaining, educational or inspirational.

Tentative schedule for the evening:
4:00 - 5:00 Community potluck. Theme: Home Food.
5:00 - 6:00 Open Decks
6:00 - 8:00 Movie: The Beautiful Truth
8:00 - 8:30 Rusted Sodom – a film by David Cohen (aka Dog of Tears)
9:00 - Entheogenic Garden music lineup starts

Hope to see you!

Thanks for coming to the dough festival, which was November's P&P. Luckily non of us was on a low carb diet. For those who couldn't make it, the movie "The Yes Men" is available for instant view on Netflix or on Google Video:

...and as Becca pointed out, they just came out with a sequel called "The Yes Men Fix The World" which tells of their recent escapades. Here is the trailer:

P&P event Tuesday November 10th - The Yes Men

Happy Halloween-recovery day everybody! Hope you had fun last night. I'd like to once again invite you to come over, on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, for an evening of friends, food, entertainment and conversation. This month we'll be watching a movie about a group called The Yes Men who you might remember from Leon's presentations at the "open decks" gathering in August. These activists define themselves as: "Impersonating big-time criminals in order to publicly humiliate them. Targets are leaders and big corporations who put profits ahead of everything else". The movie is an entertaining documentary about their true story. Trailer:

The film is 82 minutes long so we'll probably have time for some YouTubes or whatever you care to share before or after the movie (contact me). Before the movie I'll also be making an announcement regarding next month's P&P Holidays special! Wuuuuu...

The potluck theme this month is Pizza and Italian food. I'll be getting a few trays of pizza and would welcome any additional pasta dishes, salads or anything that goes well with Italian food.

Tentative schedule for the evening:
07:30 - 08:30 Gathering.
08:30 - 09:30 Community potluck dinner. Theme: Pizza and Italian food.
09:30 - 10:00 Open decks (?) and special announcements.
10:00 - 11:30 Feature presentation: The Yes Men (82 minutes)

Hope to see you!

Program notes from the October 2009 gathering (The Garden)

I've been getting a bit slow with posting the program notes. Maybe it's time for a short break? Anyway, thanks to everybody that came and helped to make it another memorable birthday. I am truly blessed to have you as friends.

After the movie Leon presented a few short clips by Taylor Mali. Here are two of them and I’m sure you can find more by googling his name.

Thanks also to One-il who played a few clips and provided an awesome idea for the P&P topic in December. Normally I would post them here but I'd rather keep it as a surprise for now so stay tuned.

Thanks again for coming and see you at the next P&P...

P&P event Tuesday October 13th - The Garden

Hey friends,
Please join us for another P&P and another birthday party! That's right. I'm gonna be exactly 36 years and 36 hours old and would love it if you could swing by and join the festivities! No physical gifts please, the only one I want for this birthday is the gift of your lovely company (and maybe a little food dish to share...).

The feature film for the evening will be "The Garden". This highly acclaimed Oscar-nominated documentary follows the true story of low-income families struggling to protect a 14-acre urban farm in the middle of Los Angeles from bureaucratic real estate developers. Who will win? Here is the trailer to give you a taste:

Yes, I know. Not exactly the most cheerful topic for a birthday themed evening but it's my party and I'll cry if I want to... This documentary is only 80 minutes long so we'll have time for open decks either before or after the movie. Let me know if you want to present/share anything.

The potluck theme this time will be Mediterranean Food, so bring your favorite Israeli, Turkish, Greek, Italian, or Middle-eastern dishes. One request though: if you're planning to bring Hummus please let me know first because I have a feeling this is the first thing that will pop into many people’s heads and we don't want too much of one thing.

Tentative schedule for the evening:
07:30 - 08:30 Gathering.
08:30 - 09:30 Community potluck birthday dinner. Theme: Mediterranean food.
09:30 - 10:00 Open decks (?)
10:00 - 11:30 Feature presentation: The Garden (80 minutes)

The main reason I choose to live in California is the friendly and inspiring people around (this means you) so I really hope you can make it.

P&P event Tuesday September 15th - Kin-Dza-Dza!

Greetings Propaganders! September is going to be an amazing month, featuring awesome festivals such as Burningman, Water Goddess (Star Camp Shasta) and Symbiosis. Somehow in between all those we are also going to try and fit our monthly little gathering. Many of us will probably be pretty exhausted after Labor Day, so we are going to postpone the event to the 3rd week of September, i.e. Tuesday the 15th.

The feature film this month is the Russian cult movie "Kin-Dza-Dza!". Those of you that have been involved with P&P from the beginning might know that I've always wanted to play this movie, but with so many other things to watch we never really had the chance. Check out the image below - doesn't it look like it was filmed in BRC?!

The potluck theme this time will be Salads. Share with us your favorite salad recipe - vegetables, pasta, chicken, seafood, everything goes!

Tentative schedule for the evening:
07:30 - 08:30 Gathering.
08:30 - 09:00 Salad bar potluck dinner.
09:00 - 11:30 Feature film: Kin-Dza-Dza! (137 minutes)

Have an awesome Labor Day and hope to see you here!

Program notes from the August 2009 gathering (open decks)

Wow, last night’s gathering was so much fun! When I first thought about throwing these events this is exactly what I had in mind - everybody contributing and participating in the program. Thank you all for coming and sharing these wonderful videos. Special thanks to Alisa and Sarai who stayed behind and helped clean the mess. We are definitely going to do another "open decks" event in the near future so if you encounter anything especially cool remember to bookmark it.

Here are some of the videos we saw, more or less in the order we watched them. Drop me a line if I forgot anything and I’ll add it to the list. See you next time!
